Google to launch Pixel Watch 2 today: Everything we know so far

Google is set to launch the second iteration of its smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 2, today, alongside the unveiling of the Pixel 8 series and Pixel Buds Pro. The tech giant has confirmed that the Pixel Watch 2 will be available in India starting from October 5.

Despite multiple leaks in recent months, details about the Pixel Watch 2 have emerged, encompassing its design, specifications, and pricing. Here’s a comprehensive rundown of what we know so far about Google’s upcoming wearable.

Design: While the front of the Pixel Watch 2 closely resembles its predecessor, it boasts a redesigned back with three new sensors and a construction entirely made of aluminum. According to a recent report by 91mobiles, the smartwatch will be offered in four distinct colors: Polished Silver/Bay, Matte Black/Obsidian, Champagne Gold/Hazel, and Polished Silver/Porcelain. It will also come with two new band options: Metal Slim and Active Sport. Speculation suggests that the smartwatch will ditch stainless steel in favor of a 100% aluminum body, resulting in a lighter overall weight. The Pixel Watch 2 appears to inherit the prominent bezels from its predecessor while featuring a new display from Samsung, with the screen and dial size remaining unchanged at 1.2 inches and 41mm, respectively.

Hardware and Software Upgrades: The Pixel Watch 2 will operate on WearOS 4, introducing various new functionalities and improvements such as dynamic theme support and seamless updates. Rumors indicate a transition from the outdated Exynos chipset to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset. According to 9to5Google, the upcoming wearable will sport a slightly larger 306mAh battery, promising up to 24 hours of battery life with the always-on display feature enabled. Under the hood, the Pixel Watch 2 is expected to incorporate Fitbit’s multi-path heart rate sensor, potentially enhancing accuracy during physical activities. Google also appears to be integrating Fitbit’s stress management system, utilizing body response tracking to monitor stress levels and provide recommendations to improve mood. An added feature may be the automatic initiation and cessation of workout tracking. Additionally, Google intends to introduce the “Safety Check” feature recently introduced in Pixel devices, particularly valuable for nighttime walks or navigating through potentially unsafe areas.

Google Pixel Watch 2 Price: According to reliable tipster Roland Quandt, the Google Pixel Watch 2 is expected to come with a slight price increase, starting at £349 GBP, which approximately converts to Rs 35,000.
